A Place in the Woods is a nomadic exhibition platform and collective. We work in natural and public spaces and on the internet, building temporary exhibitions and more permanent interventions, circling the question of what makes a place.
Many of the projects work simultaneously in off- and online formats. A trail camera takes images and streams the works from hyper-local spaces to a global audience, using the website as an archive and an exhibition platform of its own.
2026: Chapter 6 – A terrabyte rotting in the forest floor
Construction of the tiny billboard seen at the top of this page right now, as last captured by our trail camera, whenever its motion sensor was last tirggered.
2026: Chapter 5 – High Noon in Kandel
One year after the original, the cowboy movie was reincarnated as a musical reading at Leiste festival in August 2026, alongside a new billboard constructed as a seating structure / scenography for the festival.
2025: Chapter 4 – High Noon in Le Bouchage
A cowboy movie, shot across two days in the former house of Norman Potter in the south of France.
Trailer2024: Chapter 3 – Lev Vel
A sitting and display structure for the residency-space ORBI in Vrå, Denmark, built during a 3-week residency from left-overs from the Dinesen sawing mill. The structure is located on the outskirts of the property, where architecture summer schools and residencies regularly meet and learn together. It serves as a first sign of the place visible from the street, as well as providing a platform from which to look out over the surrounding landscape.

Half-scale version re-built from the material of the first billboard for Karlsruhe Museumsnacht on the green lawn in front of ZKM Karlsruhe that also serves as a training ground for dog schools.
